Who is Sweetly Sifted?
My name is Tamara MacKay... better known as Tam. I grew up loving to be in the kitchen whether it was making or eating the food! Using the kid-friendly cookbooks my Mom used to buy me to make things like homemade macaroni + cheese and cinnamon buns, I was always thinking about the idea of becoming a Chef.
It was during my Culinary Arts program in Victoria that I realized that I was passionate about and more driven towards becoming a Pastry Chef. Then began my love for cakes—making wedding and birthday display cakes at home, and teaching myself the basic skills of buttercream and fondant work. I then registered for VCC's Pastry Arts Patisserie Program. In the duration, I volunteered for Eve Lacabanne's (Culinary Cakes) cake decorating night classes, and joined the gingerbread house team led by instructor Marlie van der Ven to compete at the Hyatt Regency, winning first place.
I have been working in the industry for ten years, and have completed my Apprenticeship Training, obtaining my Red Seal Certificate as a Pastry Chef.
